Synopsis

What is man's responsibility to his fellow human beings? That's a question explored in Bystanders, an investigation thriller from Can't Live Without Robbery director Im Kyung Soo with a deeper message. Also known by the alternate title Diary of June, the film tells the story of Detectives Chu Ja Young (Shin Eun Kyung, from My Wife is a Gangster 1 and 2) and Kim Dong Wook (Eric Moon Jeong Hyuk, from A Bittersweet Life), who must solve a puzzling murder case involving a string of deaths at a local high school. Their investigation eventually leads them directly to a middle school student who has long suffered abuse at the hands of school bullies. In fact, each murder occurs just as it is described in the student's diary. On that evidence alone, one might think the detectives have an open and shut case. However, there's one problem. The student is already dead!

Who is the culprit behind all the killings? And will the detectives be able to bring the murderer to justice? Uncover the secret in Bystanders, a film that suggests that sometimes indifference to human suffering can be worse than hatred itself! Kim Yoon Jin, breakout star of the ABC megahit Lost returns to Korean film to appear in Bystanders, playing the part of Se Yun Hee, a mother who must come to grips with the startling suicide of her bullied son. The film also stars Yun Ju Sang (The King and The Clown, Duelist), Lee Yo Seob (The Crescent Moon), Jeon Hansen (Save The Green Planet), Maeng Se Chang, Kim Jin Ho, and Kim Seong Ah.
